Asus hints at “more powerful” AMD Ryzen gaming CPU arriving in just a few weeks

The general manager for Asus China, Tony Yu hosted a video in which he pretty much confirmed that AMD is working on even more powerful AMD Ryzen X3D CPUs.

While not mentioning them by name outright, his hint in the video has led to speculation that the rumored 9950X3D and 9900X3D are indeed on the way and could land at CES. AMD already holds the crown for the best gaming CPU with its 9800X3D but these could crank performance in other applications up a notch.

In the video, posted to the Chinese social media site Bilibili, Yu was answering a question about Asus’ next motherboards. The updated models are part of the “back-plug” line, where the company will put the ports and connectors on the back for neater cable management.

During the answer – translated by Uniko’s Hardware – Yu drops a hint that “Everyone knows that the recent 9800X3D is really the strongest on Earth.” He then followed it up with, “There may be a more powerful CPU at CES later. By then you will see the new X870 back-plug motherboard.”

As we’ve previously reported, AMD is expected to launch the 9950X3D and 9900X3D in the coming months. The X3D line from AMD has been hailed as the best choice for gamers thanks to its extra 3D V-Cache providing a big boost to game frame rates.

However, the recently released Ryzen 7 9800X3D has completely sold out, with some sellers trying to scam those on the hunt for them by posting fake AMD 9800X3D listings on Amazon.

These comments from Yu seem to indicate that regular tech leaker Hoang Anh Phu was on the money when they suggested the 9950X3D will be arriving in January. The catch for these CPUs will be that not every core will get access to the 3D V-Cache stacked underneath the chiplets. Phu claims that the same setup as the last generation Ryzen 7000 variations will be on the 9950X3D and 9900X3D, leading to some missing performance.

The X3D models have been a major boon for PC gaming, with their large L3 caches – thanks to the extra 3D V-Cache chip that’s stacked onto the CPU die – not only boosting frame rates but doing so with a minimal hit to power consumption and heat output.

CES 2025 is hotting up, as it is expected that AMD will announce these new X3D CPUs, as well as its handheld processors, the Z2 Extreme. On top of this, Nvidia is set to announce its RTX 50 series in one of the show’s major keynote presentations, so it’s a show to keep track off first thing next year.
