Black Myth: Wukong Skipped Xbox Due to PlayStation Exclusivity Deal, Not Technical Issues – Rumour

In June, developer Game Science announced that the release of its highly anticipated action RPG, Black Myth: Wukong, had been delayed on Xbox, with the developer suggesting at the time that the delay had been caused by optimization issues. Recently, known leaker eXtas1s claimed that the technical issue in question that had resulted in the game’s delay was a memory leak on Xbox hardware– though it seems that might not have been accurate information.

That is, at least, as per reports published by Forbes and IGN, both of which claim that Black Myth: Wukong did not skip Xbox Series X/S at launch because of technical issues, but because of an exclusivity deal between Sony and Game Science, one that neither publicized, that keeps the game as a PlayStation console exclusive at launch.

Microsoft itself had previously alluded to the same, stating that it was “working with Game Science to bring the game to our platforms”, but that it could not “comment on the deals made by our partners with other platform holders”.

If an exclusivity agreement is indeed in place, it should be interesting to see how long it lasts and keeps the game off Xbox. It’s also worth questioning why the deal wasn’t publicized and, if it was indeed in place, why Game Science’s statements seemed to suggest that the game’s Xbox release had been delayed due to technical issues.

Black Myth: Wukong is currently available on PS5 and PC. It has sold over 10 million units already.
