Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake Peaks at Over 14,000 Concurrent Steam Players on Launch Day

Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake launched today for PC and consoles, and based on its early Steam concurrent user numbers so far, it seems like the retro RPG has got off to a fairly decent (if unspectacular) start.

As per SteamDB, the game saw a peak of 14,282 concurrent players on Steam today. That’s the highest concurrent users peak ever for a Dragon Quest game- though the game was always likely to accomplish that, given that it is the first major Dragon Quest title to be getting a day and date Steam release.

Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake’s concurrent users peak on Steam is slightly under (but roughly in the same region) as the last HD-2D release by Square Enix, Octopath Traveler 2, which peaked at over 17,000 players on Steam upon its launch last year. Meanwhile, Star Ocean: The Second Story R, another retro RPG remake by Square Enix, had a peak of over 8,000 players upon its release last November. How well Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake does on Steam over the coming days remains to be seen, especially with the weekend coming up.

Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake is available on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. Read our review of the game through here.
