An Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 benchmark leak has appeared online, just days ahead of the expected launch date for the new gaming GPU. Data from the leak suggests that while the RTX 5080 might not beat the last-gen flagship RTX 4090 on performance, it’s at least a little faster than the RTX 4080 Super.
The RTX 5080 release date isn’t far off now, with the RTX 5090 set to be the best graphics card you can buy if you want the fastest performance possible. In contrast, the RTX 5080 sits in a more curious position. Should this data prove to be accurate, this new Nvidia graphics card will sit performance-wise between the RTX 4080 Super and the RTX 4090, while (on paper) being offered for sale at a much cheaper price than the 4090.
This new benchmark data comes from a post on Chinese forum Tieba Baidu (via Videocardz), where a user posted a purported screen photo of a 3DMark Time Spy test, seemingly of the RTX 5080, and most likely using pre-release drivers offered to reviewers ahead of its launch. The leaked data shows the RTX 5080 gaining a 3DMark Time Spy Graphics score of 32,701.
If the data is accurate, that would mean the RTX 5080 has a 15% performance boost compared to the RTX 4080 Super, which has a 3DMark graphics score of 28,305 points on average. However, the RTX 4090 has a score of 36,328 on average, leaving the RTX 5080 10.5% slower than the older flagship card after this test.
Considering that RTX 4000 stock is set to sell out almost imminently, this performance (if it’s genuine) would leave the RTX 5080 in a strong position to become the most popular top-tier graphics card for gamers. The $999 price tag is half the $1,999 MSRP of the RTX 5090, with performance that places it ahead of almost every GPU except the last and current-gen Nvidia flagships.
A lot will depend on how much RTX 5080 stock there is to go around after launch, and how well retailers (and scalpers) respond to that in the coming months. While this data isn’t confirmed, we’ll be reviewing the RTX 5080 ourselves very soon to see how well it performs in real-world gaming tests.
In the meantime, check out our RTX 5090 review to see what we thought about the new Nvidia powerhouse graphics card.
