AMD Radeon RX 9060 is official, rumored to have near-RTX 4070 gaming performance

AMD has officially stated that there is an RX 9060 series and that it will be arriving in Q2 of this year. That means an AMD Radeon RX 9060 and potentially an AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT will be available by the end of June, with the cards even potentially breaking cover as early as April 2025.

With AMD‘s hugely anticipated RX 9070 series gaming GPUs going on sale later this week, and Nvidia also primed to unleash its RTX 5070 in the next few days, the fight for the best graphics card that doesn’t cost over $1,000 is wide open. However, while the RX 9070 XT, as well as the RX 9070 could potentially offer great calue, they’re still going to cost at least $549. As such, the RX 9060 series is really going to be the one to watch for gamers on a budget.

The official reveal of the RX 9060 name and its release date window was made during AMD’s RX 9000 series reveal, shown in the video below. With the bulk of the 32-minute video dedicated to detailing the company’s new RDNA 4 architecture for GPUs, revealing the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT graphics card specs and prices, and teasing what FSR 4 has in store, the company snuck in the new RX 9060 information right at the end.

AMD corporate vice president and GM, David McAfee, proclaimed that “in the second quarter of this year we’ll broaden the [GPU] family even further with the RX 9060 products, which we’ll tell you more about later.”

As the above quote suggests, AMD provided no further details on what we can expect from the GPU(s), with no hint at pricing or specs. However, other recent rumors provide more details of what we could expect.

Regular tech leaker and speculator, Moore’s Law Is Dead posted a new video recently (below), which suggests the RX 9060 XT could be “just a little weaker than a 4070” if the clock speed of the card is pushed hard. Otherwise, the channel claims the new AMD GPU would sit between the RTX 4060 Ti and RX 7700 XT for performance, which would still be a solid upgrade over the company’s current-generation “60 series” card, the RX 7600 XT.

Other speculation by tech rumor site Videocardz.com suggests there will be both an RX 9060 and RX 9060 XT, and that both will use a Navi 44 GPU with a 128-bit memory interface connected to 20Gbps VRAM.

As for pricing, given the naming convention AMD is now using, we’d expect the RX 9060 range to be a replacement for the RX 7600 series, and those cards have MSRPs of $249 for the RX 7600 and $329 for the RX 7600 XT. As such, we would expect the RX 9060 series to demand similar prices, but it’s also possible that AMD could choose to position the RX 9060 prices higher or lower than these figures.

Whatever the exact specs and price of the new GPUs, we can expect them to support the improved ray tracing performance of RDNA 4 along with the improved image quality of FSR 4. When combined, this could make these new GPUs transformative for gamers on a budget.
