A new Witcher saga will begin when The Witcher 4 launches (sometime in the future). Though Geralt of Rivia will appear, Ciri is in the spotlight this time, bringing her own monster-slaying style to the forefront. CD Projekt RED has also spoken about how much “faster, more agile” she is than Geralt and expanded on this in the AnsweRED podcast.
Referring to Ciri’s stylish killing blow from the reveal trailer, senior communications manager Pawel Burza said, “You don’t see Geralt doing these things. He’s nimble, but he feels like a block in some sense. She’s like liquid compared to him.” Game director Sebastian Kalemba also noted how she “moves like she was raised by wolves in Kaer Morhen,” based on “her personality, her posture and stuff.”
Ciri can wield more potent magic, as seen with her usage of Bolt in the trailer, but the developer is ensuring she isn’t overpowered. Something occurred between The Witcher 3 and 4 that resulted in her current skill set, though details are still pending.
Regardless, CD Projekt RED is looking to provide more player agency, citing lessons learned from Cyberpunk 2077’s build variety. While more details are pending, it wants to “give players more opportunities to feel that they define their experience.”
The Witcher 4 lacks a release date (understandably, since it entered full production in November 2024), but it’s coming to Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Recently, the developer clarified that Ciri’s model remained unchanged in its behind-the-scenes video. Head here for more details.
