Following the release of the first PC controller to feature Hall Effect triggers, the Revolution 5 Pro, Nacon is releasing a new Xbox and PC model, the Revolution X Unlimited, which this time introduces a built-in LCD and finally adds vibration. This controller is available to pre-order now, despite originally targeting a Fall 2024 release.
I reviewed the Revolution 5 Pro controller and found that, while impressive, it fell short of becoming an essential purchase for PC players. It was missing vibration due to a Sony licensing issue for PS5 accessories but still sat among the best PC controllers due to its impressive adaptation of Hall Effect technology, which Nacon is championing in this new controller once again.
With the new Nacon Revolution X Unlimited, the Xbox version of the Revolution 5 Pro, vibration is back and, perhaps more importantly, an LCD screen has been placed where the PS5 touchpad would be located.
This LCD allows for quick profile switching, on-the-fly button remapping, and audio mixing. It might seem like a small change, and it’s certainly not one that is innovative, as other controllers have used displays in the past. However, with the vibrate function and LCD together, this controller looks much more competitive on paper compared to similarly priced PC controllers.
The deep levels of customization and profile storage make the Revolution X Unlimited an attractive proposition for PC gamers who find themselves switching between genres frequently. It also comes with a physical customization kit to change the d-pad and thumbstick for different sizes and textures.
Another interesting feature retained from the Revolution 5 Pro is the adjustable weight. The controller comes with three sets of weights, which can be added to the controller grips. This is great for those who prefer a heavier feel in hand without punishing those who prefer lightweight controllers.
The Nacon Revolution X Unlimited is available to pre-order now, with the shipping to commence in time for its release date of April 30, 2025. Its price is set at $199.90 / £179.90. If you need the PS5 version, it’s currently available on Amazon for a discounted price of $149.99.
